Summary:
Microsoft Outlook maintains a list of “nicknames” that is used by the automatic completion feature in the TO… section of a message. This allows you type in a staff members name without having to type in the full email address.
- Notice how Test User is the “nickname” holding the email [email protected]
When the list of “nicknames” is corrupted, Outlook may be unable to identify recipients or offer incorrect recipients when trying to automatically complete the email address. This may lead to a message stating that a user’s email address is no longer valid.
Solutions:
To fix this problem you will need to clear the Auto-Complete feature stored on your outlook following one of two methods:
- Method 1 (Deleting individual email address, if the problem is only happening for a single contact)
1. Delete the Auto-Complete list by typing the recipient into the To… field when composing an email.
2. When the address appears, select “X” next to the email and it will be removed.
- Method 2 (Clearing the whole Auto-Complete List, if the problem is happening to multiple contacts)
1. In Outlook, under File tab, click Options.
2. Click the Mail tab.
3. Scroll down to Send Messages, click Empty Auto-Complete List.
4. Then click Yes when prompted.
